Abhishek also read out a beautiful poem 'Agnipath' written by his grandfather Harivansh Rai Bachchan along with a message from his actor father Amitabh Bachchan.
He visited some of the locations where the Kargil war was fought 10 years back. His entire journey will be shown on NDTV's special show "Jai Jawan" Saturday at 12 p.m. and Sunday 11.30 a.m. and 9.30 p.m.
The journey to Kargil and Drass is an eight-hour drive. Following the route taken by jawans, Abhishek walked across the Zojilla Pass and even drove for a portion of the journey, meeting soldiers at each point along the way, an NDTV release said.
Abhishek also visited a bunker at Sando top and even tried his hand at firing a few rounds with them at the training centre. He then recounted his experiences while shooting for the movie "LOC Kargil", which was inspired by the war.
On Kargil Vijay Diwas 10 years ago, Indian soldiers defeated the Pakistani infiltrators after fighting for over 40 days in Kargil and Drass and retrieved the control of the land they had lost to infiltrators. Many soldiers lost their lives in the war.
