Gone are the days when you could see her giggling and gyrating in flashy item numbers. Our little Urmi baby is no more a Masoom girl. She has decided to take on variety of challenges as far as her career is concerned. She'll scare you in her upcoming Bhoot and her potrayal of molested girl in Pinjar will send the chills down your spine.
Her diction and style of acting impressed Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the director on Pinjar. "Believe it or not but I never saw any of Urmila's films before signing her for Pinjar. The promos appearing on various television channels were enough to convince me that she was the one I had been looking for. And the way she has handled the role bears out my initial assessment. Not only does she look good on screen, but has really entered into the skin of her character. Unlike most of her generation, Urmila is a very dedicated actress and it's been a pleasure working with her. She's a director's delight and I am sure audiences will appreciate her performance in Pinjar", he says.
Reliving the harrowing exodus that followed the Indo-Pak partition, in the film Matondkar plays a woman who has vulnerability sparked with innate strength. For good measure, Pinjar repeats the successful pairing of Urmila and Manoj Bajpai first seen in Kaun and then Bhoot. In fact so convinced is Dwivedi about the film's success that there are plans afoot to dub Pinjar in English even before its original release.
