When it comes to stealing the show, the leggy Ms Shetty is not far behind Aishwarya Rai. Shilpa has become the second actress who'll represent Bollywood at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Unlike Ash, she won't be sitting in jury but doing something she does the best. Yes, it's true, Shipa has been assigned to perform Bollywood dance number at the event, which will be held from May 14-25. Shilpa is seeing this opportunity at Cannes as another step forward in her career.
"I'm carefully picking my parts in films. And if it wasn't such an honour to represent our country I wouldn't have accepted this offer to go on stage at Cannes," Shilpa said on the sets of "Sanghaar" where she's currently shooting with Salman Khan. Shilpa's colleagues who were approached had reservations about dancing at an event where Aishwarya was a judge. But she finds the though amusing? "Are you serious? Why would I feel insecure just because Aishwarya is on the Cannes jury? In fact I'd feel happy dancing, knowing that she is watching. If it's an honour for Aishwarya to be on the jury of Cannes I'm equally proud to be representing my country at such a prestigious do."
Both Shilpa and Aishwarya belong to Mangalore. And their connection doesn't end there. Her dance number at Cannes will be choreographed by the duo Pappu and Malu who did Aishwarya's exquisite "More Piya" number in "Devdas".Neeta Lulla who did Aishwarya's costumes in "Devdas" will do Shilpa's costumes at Cannes. "They wanted me to perform items from every era since the inception of cinema. But I suggested I do something from the 1990s to the present times. I'm not comfortable doing anything I'm not familiar with," says Ms Shetty.
