After the "Slumdog Millionaire" phenomenon, Hollywood-Bollywood crossover and India-centered feature films have inundated the cinema scene.

Joe Wright (Atonement) is directing Cate Blanchett starrer "Indian Summer" (2011) about last days of British rule in India, while Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain) is working on film adaptation of Yann Martel's fantasy "Life of Pi" (2011) about a boy Pi Patel from Pondicherry (India) who survives 227 days after shipwreck.

Paul Quinn (Never Get Outta the Boat) is directing "Good Ol' Boy" (2010) starring Sarita Choudhury about the struggles and conflicts of new immigrant family from India in USA, which will be shot in Canada-USA-India; while Sai Selvarajan directed "Joy Lies" (2009) in Tamil-English is about an Indian immigrant in USA who returns to his family after a prison sentence.

Acclaimed Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed, welcoming this India-trend of world film industry, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that filmmakers should also explore many finer and deeper things India offered, instead of just focusing on poverty and crime.

Planet's most multidimensional country, fast growing economy, emerging world power, largest democracy, etc.; India had snowcapped mountains, palm- fringed and sun-washed beaches, glorious temples, colorful festivals, rich philosophy and spirituality, abundant historical sites, wildlife safaris, recharging treks, historic trade routes, cultural wealth, etc., Rajan Zed, who is chairperson of Indo-American Leadership Confederation, added.

Switzerland-India production "Shyam's Secret" (2010), directed by Deborah Mangola, is an adventure tale set in India about an 8-year-old girl's friendship with a mysterious boy named Shyam. Winston Furlong's drama "Taj" (2010) is about a charismatic dying Indian writer and his neglected relationships.

"The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" (2009) is based on a novel about a nursing home for retired Britons in Bangalore. "Skates" (2009), directed by Arjun Chakraborty, is about beautiful Indian immigrant girl Sati from Iceland infatuated with a local ice skating champion, and who goes to India.

Raj Basu directed "Piyalir Password" (2009) in Bengali and English is about a young woman who comes to USA after her sister's death. "The Stamp Collector" (2011) is being produced by Arati Misro and Alessandro Gentile and directed by Francesca Di Amico.

Oldest India-centered western production seems to be "The Hindoo's Treachery" (1910) directed by David Aylott, a silent war movie made in United Kingdom. John Collins' comedy "Lady Barnacle" (1917) included Hollywood stars portraying Indians, like Augustus Phillips was Maharajah Bhartari-Hari Pal Singh, and William Davidson played Krishna Dhwaj.
