Dear Ms Basu, you thought that you are the only one who can handle the hot projects. Move over, 'Amchi Mulgi' Sonali Bendre oops.. Behl is here. In her latest film, 'Anahat', she is playing the wife of an impotent king (Anant Nag) who is asked by the law makers of her kingdom, to go for niyog (a ritual wherein the queen chooses a mate for a night to give the kingdom an heir).
Too bold! Isn't it? Directed by Amol Palekar, this 10th century period drama is based on Surendra Verma's play 'Surya Kee Antim Kiran Se Surya Kee Pehli Kiran Tak'.
Sonali is very ecstatic about her role in the film. "It's a role unlike anything I've played before," she exults. Palekar who always chooses 'hat ke' subjects for his films makes it a point that Sonali was always his first choice for the film.
"She has absolute classic beauty and yet, there's a contemporary edge to it just like the subject of my film. The way Sonali has gone even beyond her own expectations is really very satisfying. She definitely deserves a national award for Anahat." says the director.
