They say when it rains, it pours. With her debut venture, Boom, falling flat on it's face Katrina is in for some tough times ahead. Her teakwood histrionics and linguistic blues are taking toll on her budding career and as a result, this half Indian, half phirang girl lost one more project.
But what makes the whole issue interesting is that Katrina was pipped at the post by a fellow ramp walker and novice in the showbiz, Yana Gupta. Director K Vijay Bhasker has signed her to play the lead in his upcoming film, 'Malliswari'.
Yana has every reason to be ecstatic. "Nobody is born an actor", she claims and adds, "It's your own sensibilities and love for the craft that drive you to it. I have been in Bollywood for sometime now and many filmmakers are convinced about my ability to act. I have been seriously learning the finer points of acting and meeting people from stage and cinema to hone my skills."
When asked, why he preferred Yana over Katrina, Bhasker says, "Neither Yana nor Katrina had much to recommend them as far as knowledge of Hindi and understanding of Indian culture are concerned. But Yana appears comparatively more willing to be molded. She has the sex appeal of Helen, Zeenat Aman and Mumtaz all rolled into one. I am sure she will act well too".
We must say, good going Yana.
