If Urmila weren't there in the 90s, most of the Bollywood heroines would still have been flashing their thunder thighs onscreen. It was just Urmi baby, who defined the Oomph saga on the Indian silver screen.
But to the dismay of many the Mast girl has gone for an image change lately. She isn't all about skimpy outfits anymore. Though the famous pout and hourglass figure remain, her bump and grind days are history.
"My priorities are clear," she says and adds, "I want good films, decent money and peace. I never consciously seek awards because being appreciated is more important for me than having a trophy in my drawing room."
Don't even dare to delve into her personal life; you may end up with a bruised eye. "My private life is a closed chapter. Why do people have to look for personal overtones in my relationships?" she asks.
Known as Ram Gopal Verma's muse, she takes a pick at them, who trash her relationship with the noted director. "If I don't do films with Ramuji, then they say ‘he's moved on' if I do, they say ‘she's back in his camp' so I'd rather not let all this affect me anymore."
Right now, Urmila is crossing her fingers for her upcoming Pinjar, in which she is playing a rape victim. Describing the film to be very close to her heart she says, "I didn't read Amrita Pritam's novel on which Pinjar is based, because I wanted to follow Dr Dwivedi's script. It's a story of an ordinary woman's triumph over hostile circumstances."
Isn't she one 'Mast' girl?
