When Priyanka Chopra conquered the Miss World tiara with her glib talk, everyone thought that the time for the small town girls has arrived.
The arch lights were quick to spot Chopra's talent and very soon Priyanka was dancing around the trees in Hindi films.
Brought up in non descript town like Barailey, Chopra won millions of hears all across India. But what do people in her hometown think about their homegrown whiz kid.
"Priyanka promotes nudity in all her films and has done a great deal of harm to family values. Actresses like her do nothing positive for our society. How then can they expect to be feted for their achievements," says a housewife who doesn't let her daughters find much about her.
Not many in the town differ from these common sentiments. That's what deeply aghasts Priyanka.
"I have brought laurels to Bareilly, I feel disappointed the city has never reciprocated with the kind of admiration I deserve. Sometimes when I go back, the response lacks a certain warmth," she rues.
The actress doesn't play any denial games when asked about the exposing aspect of her Bollywood stint.
"Filmmakers do want me to shed more clothes! They feel if I could do what I did in Andaaz, then why not in other films? But I can never bring myself to do anything that's vulgar or projected obscenely. In Andaaz, my director convinced me that I was passionately in love and could do anything to woo my man," she explains.
So is sex really a taboo for Chopra? Picture this...
"Sex is no different from other things that you do in life. A healthy sex life is vital to a person's well being, never mind if it's before or after marriage. Your body should be your only guide in deciding whether to have a physical relationship or not," she insists.
