No wonder, we are in a situation where two films of the same producer are arriving on a single Friday. Ever heard of anything like that in the history of Bollywood cinema?
However, this is pretty much happening this week with both 'Pankh' and 'The Great Indian Butterfly' running in theaters. Presented as art-house cinema, these Sanjay Gupta films are arriving with nothing promotion and there is no chance whatsoever for any of these to be sustaining beyond a single weekend.
Now this is terrible considering the fact that at least 'Pankh', being a Bipasha Basu starrer, could have got a much better platform.
As for 'The Great Indian Butterfly', this English film could have been released as a mainstream English film rather than a Bollywood fare. However, as stated earlier, the makers have made the decision and expectedly, disaster is waiting to happen.
On an even sadder note, one can't believe that the makers of super hits like 'Jeet', 'Andaaz' and 'Deewana' - Raj Kanwar, is currently in such a sorry state that his 'Sadiyaan' is releasing with hardly any promotion.
In the times when a star-son launch is an event by itself, Luv Sinha must be indeed feeling cheated that his debut film is seeing such a half hearted release. Of course by the look of things, the film hardly looks like the kind that could entice today's audience.
However, when much worse films are far better promoted, the way 'Sadiyaan' is seeing a theatrical arrival is nothing but shocking. Don't expect any fireworks here.
Ironically, in comparison a smaller film like 'Tum Milo To Sahi' is at least seeing some decent promotion coming its way.
This obvious inspiration from 'Life...In A Metro' too has been ready for close to a year and is seeing a release now but at least the makers are giving it a try. No, this won't necessarily see massive foot falls in days to come but at least everyone would be able to keep his/her head high.
