All she ever wanted in life was to get married and to be loved as a wife and as a mother but what she got instead sums up the sad tale behind the glitzy arch lights of the Bollywood.
Yes... it is story of Bhanurekha aka Rekha, one of the tallest leading lady of all times, who was forced to join films at 13 to support her family. It is also the tale of a girl who grew up without her father, Gemini Ganeshan, being around and detested her dusky looks as a child.
After a long mum of 20 years Rekha breaks her silence in a heart wrenching rendezvous with Simi Garewal as a host.
"I had different dreams and desires. All I wanted was to spend my life with somebody who cared for me and have lots and lots of children," says Rekha. "I wonder why I felt like that then, but that's what Bhanurekha wanted. That was her dream," she adds.
Her iconic status hit her pretty late in her life, she confesses.
"I didn't realise the value of being an actor. But when I went up on the stage, and received my award for 'Khoon Bhari Maang' ... Boom, it hit me," says the actress, who often had been accused of being a recluse after suicide of her husband Mukesh Agarwal.
The mystery woman, whose life had been mired in various controversies; comes candid on her relationship with men.
"I didn't get into a relationship in search of anything in particular. I didn't have an idea what to look for; it was never a spur-of-the-moment fun. It was always genuine, from my side at least," she claims.
While she still refutes the claims of her marrying Vinod Mehra but doesn't hesitate to accept that Amitabh Bachchan was the man, who influenced her life for a long time.
According to Simi: "She still seems to hold on to him somewhere in her life. You can learn a lot about Rekha, but the mystique about her still remains. This is closest you can get to her."
