And from Anurag's attempts to make his solitary way out of Copenhagen in Denmark where his Dev D was screened on 15 April at the CPH-PIX film festival, was born the script for a new film.
Says Anurag, "I got the chance to write a new script. So I'm not complaining about being stranded in Denmark for the last one week. The airport in Copenhagen was closed. But I had to eventually get out of Denmark by other modes of travel besides planes. "
That's when Anurag's real adventure—and fodder for a script—really began.
Says the zapped filmmaker, "To travel from Copenhagen to Rome I had to change six trains in 28 hours! It was the most amazing experience of my life. In two of the trains I had no sitting place, so I had to stand and travel. It reminded me of those days of being jostled in Mumbai's local trains. "
The whole experience of traveling in unpredictable patterns all alone has changed Anurag's viewpoint on life. "I was forgetting my roots. I was getting too used to luxuries, traveling to any part of the world by air. Here was a jolting experience. "
Anurag has put the experiencec of his solitary journey in Europe in a script.
Explains the director, "I like to go to these esoteric small film festivals alone because the actors of my films only like going to the big glamorous events. Believe it or not, I've so far never been to Cannes for the simple reason that I never had a film represented there.
Our film industry descends on Cannes every year to make a fool of itself without a film to represent. Now that my production Udaan is being screened in Cannes next month, I'll be going to Cannes for the first time. Hopefully there will be no outlandish adventures this time. "
Then Anurag adds, "Or maybe I need one more such adventure to jolt me into writing another script. "
