Hrithik Roshan plays a paraplegic in Sanjay Bhansali's Guzaarish. While researching for the film, Duggu met a few paraplegics. He was moved by their plight and told his wife, Sussanne that he wanted to support sufferers by giving them proper care and treatment. She thought it was a noble cause, and helped her husband make it into a reality.
Picking 'em out
Based out of Juhu, the Angels Foundation is funding for the caregiving of around 15 patients. After completing some formalities, Mrs Roshan went about selecting patients abandoned by their families and those unable to receive proper medical assistance.
A source close to the actor adds, "The Guzaarish role was gruelling for Hrithik on many levels. It wasn't just mentally challenging to play a dying man, it was also physically taxing. And that made him empathise with sufferers of the condition.
Helping hand
These days, when Hrithik isn't shooting he spends time with the patients and even brings them gifts. The couple support a lot of charitable causes anonymously. Apart from helping the lesser privileged, they also help kids suffering from serious conditions. The Angels Foundation is just an extension of their work.
Rakesh Roshan confirms, "During Guzaarish, Hrithik had met some paraplegic patients and was quite moved to see their condition. So he's decided to support the medical treatment of 15 patients picked from all over the country.''
