Even as the country fights against rising petrol prices, Aamir Khan's Peepli Live has a song that reflects the plight of
those faced with this price rise.
The song, Mehaangaai daayan talks about how the cost of living is going
up everyday, and villagers who move to cities for better paying jobs are faced with rising expenses too. The song
personifies inflation as their husbands' second wife who spends all their earnings.
Peepli Live, directed by Anusha Rizvi, is about a farmer Natha in the village Peepli, who makes an announcement
one day that he will commit suicide to save his village. The consequences of this announcement form the basis for
this satire.
