However, at the Cairo Film festival when Madholal Keep Walking was screened, Madhur Bhandarkar and Irrfan Khan, who were present, both greatly appreciated the film.
Even as Subrat Dutta received the best actor's award, Irrfan played a full sport and acknowledged the acting and the film pretty well.
One also hears of memorable incident during the filming of the movie how the star cast was stranded suddenly at a busy Mumbai railway station.
It seems what happened was the director along with his cast started to practice before a month of the real shooting started and they would practice in the train till 11:30 in the morning.
All the actors would gather at Borivali and practice till Churchgate stations.
On the day of shooting the director decided that the crowd should be more and should look real so he decided to shoot the film between 8:30 and 9:00 in the morning.
Everyone was ready but when the train came it was so jam packed with commuters that all the technicians climbed on it but the actors couldn't and Subrat Dutt and others were stranded on the platform.
The director all but fainted since if this had happened on the first day then he would have had wasted one of eight precious days that he was permitted to shoot his film at the location.
Finally the technicians got down at the next station, came back and in the end the shooting could only commence at 11:30 in the same train in which they used to practice.
Meanwhile on the the film's music also featured an interesting tale.
One day at his office Jay got a call; the caller said, "Sir we have come to know from our sources that you are making a film on a heart touching topic and I guess for that you'll need musicians?"
"Yes there's a need for the musician but I have spoken to some music director, " Jay replied.
The caller introduced him as part of a duo known as Nayab - Raja and asked for twenty minutes of his time to show their musical skills.
Jay said he did not have much time to spare, to which Nayab countered that they will only take up his lunch time and while he eats, they will play.
Jay finally gave in but said the duo would have to come in the very day since he was about to leave town.
"How much time will you take to come to my office? Our lunch will be at 2 pm and now it is 1 p.m., " Jay said.
Nayab replied "Sir, we are already in your office."
A speechless Jay could only watch as two young lads carrying Harmonium and Tablas came into the office and after doing dua-salam promptly sat on the floor.
Nayab explained, "Sir you were on the second and we were on the first floor, now if you'll give us permission then we can show our musical skills."
Totally unconvinced about the kind of music they would dish out, Jay handed them the lyrics for a song from the movie "Khuda ke vast, mita do faasle".
When they finally played, at one stroke only the tune was apparently so mesmerizing that this musical meeting ended at eight in the evening. Lunch was forgotten.
And thus Nayab - Raja became the music directors for the film Madholal Keep Walking.
The film also includes a Qawwali song filmed upon the duo, shot within a mere two hours.
Madholal Keep Walking, having won plenty of critical acclaim and also the best actor's award at the Cairo International Film Festival, is all set for release on 27 August.
