Neelima Azim has started an acting school that will teach aspiring actors the basics of filmmaking as well as dance, music and yoga. A classical dancer herself, she feels the city needs an academy that teaches students not just acting but also music and dance.
The star mom says, "I always felt we needed to have a school that focused on dance because it's something that brings out the creative person in you.
Along with dance, having a sound knowledge of music as well is important. You need to know the basics before you want to jump in front of the camera and start acting."
She continues, "I think these days the focus is more on external elements like gymming, or the way you look more than what's happening inside. Which is why I also have a yoga centre where the students will learn about leading a holistic lifestyle."
Neelima recently took to the stage in Kolkata performing solo after 12 long years for a dance show. "Dance has always been my first passion. I had broken my foot just before the performance and I told my son (Shahid) that I needed all his energy before I go on stage. Both my sons are terrific dancers and I am very proud of them."
In coming months, Azim plans to do more dance shows, "I will be performing in Mumbai in December. I am really happy with the love and support I received in Kolkata and want to continue doing this."
