The channel UTV Bindass had sued the production house Purple Haze and Roopvati Pictures citing that it possesses the title of the film 'Emotional Atyachar'. They filed a case demanding a huge Rs 20 crore for the damages as the channels airs a reality show by with the same title.
The release of the movie 'Emotional Atyachar' was stalled for this lawsuit by the channel. However, now the movie will hit the theaters tomorrow on 3rd September.
The production house's lawyer Ashok Purohit was quoted saying that UTV Bindass claimed 'Emotional Atyachar' to be their brand name but theirs is a reality show and we have a full fledged movie. He added that they are not at all close to the reality show and above all they have registered the title with Indian Motion Pictures' Producers Association (IMPAA).
Purohit further said that IMPAA has done lots of scrutiny and only then the tittle was given to them and registered the certificate in favor of the production house.
Conversely, the title of the film was never registered by UTV with any of the industry bodies. Hence, the court rejected the case of UTV Bindass and the channel has now appealed against this order.
Ashok Purohit also added that even thought they have asked for a whooping 20 crore for damages, they could not provide the details of the damages done. Hence, their application was rejected and the channel's appeal would be heard today.
Akshay Shere has directed the movie 'Emotional Atyachar', which stars Ranvir Shorey, Vinay Pathak, Kalki and Abhimanyu Singh in lead roles. Vijay Gutte is the producer of the movie.
