Lalit Modi biopic The Commissioner just went global. The project will now follow the former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner around the world.
Given how things stand, Ajay Devgn may well be out of reckoning to play the title role with Johnny Depp emerging as one of the names being considered to take on the role.
The Modi film had been shelved after controversies surrounding the former IPL Commissioner came to light, but is now seen as having a crackerjack plot for a global film.
Percept Pictures, who initially were sole producers, have now inked a deal with two major business houses headed by close friends of the man in question.
The biggest development is that Lalit (who is allegedly in Dubai) has become keenly interested in the project and has shown interest in turning co-producer.
Shailendra Singh of Percept confirms. "All I'll say at the moment is that two corporate houses are on board with us to produce The Commissioner as an international project.
And yes, Lalit Modi is interested in the progress of the project."
A reliable source close to Percept adds, "When Mr Modi heard of our newly revived plans, he rang up the head of one of the producers for the project to say, 'Wait a while. The climax of my story is yet to happen.'."
