Rajkumar Santoshi is excited with Lajja has hit the silver screen. He was instigated to make the film when he read of a gruesome incident in the daily newspaper. A woman was brutally tied down and gang raped for ten days and later burnt alive in her own house. All this because her son dared to love an upper caste girl.
Santoshi felt strongly about the issue and decided to give life to the incident on screen. He even visited the village and met the people related with the incident.Manisha Koirala plays the protagonist while Rekha, Madhuri and Mahima play the victims of abuse.
