Asha Bhonsle has become perhaps the first professional singer to record a song in the US and despatch it to her music director here by e-mail.

It happened like this:

Music director Shamir Tandon wanted Asha to sing a song for Madhur Bhandarkar's film "Page 3". Nameeta Premkumar Nair of Imagikworld was to do the music video for the song, which is basically a promotional video for the movie.

But Asha was in the US. So, the tune was e-mailed to her. Asha then recorded the song in the US and e-mailed it back to Tandon.

The song was picturised on Asha after she returned. Nilesh Pillai directed the video, which also features Hrishitaa Bhatt and newcomer Ricky

"It was easy convincing Ashaji as she has sung in my film 'Kis Kiski Kismet,'" said Nameeta.

Asha, on her part, is still basking in the success of the e-mail effort.

"Long ago, RD (Burman) told me that I should go ahead with technology and not discard it. That was when I did not want to wear the headphone. I guess (the advice) has paid off," she said.
