While he's working on the sequel to Singh Is Kinng with Akshay Kumar, Vipul Shah has decided to first go ahead and make that rom-com with Abhishek Bachchan that he had planned before the release of Action
Replayy.
But a special 'look' that was planned for Abhishek has been dropped. It is widely believed that it was Akshay Kumar's 1970s' nerdy look in Action Replayy that finally did the film in.
Or so Vipul believes. Says the director, "So many people have told Akshay and me that Akshay's long-haired nerdy look didn't work. In fact Akshay told me to discard his wig in the second-half of Action Replayy. I
didn't listen to him.No regrets. We did what we had to. You lose some you win some."
But yes, the elaborate look that was planned for Abhishek in Vipul Shah's next has now been abandoned. In fact Abhishek's character which was designed to be life-like has now been inflated by several sizes to
appear larger than life.
Says Vipul, "If you see Akshay in my films Waqt, Namaste London and Action Replayy or even Salman in London Dreams they're weak almost wimpish characters. That is not what audiences want today.I realize
audiences go to see their stars in all their glamorous glory. We can't take away that thrill from the audience. Abhishek will have no 'look' in my film."
Interestingly the Abhishek film directed by Vipul Shah would be based on an original screenplay. Action Replayy was based a Gujarati play. "It was the last in my trilogy of films adapted from a Guajarati play after
Aankhen and Waqt. The Abhishek starrer would have an original screenplay. This is not to say I won't adapt stage plays. The first Gol Maal film was based on a play."
