It was just a few months ago that media reports were rife with Ramalath threatening to go on hunger strike if Prabhu Deva went ahead and married his new found love actress Nayantara.
Ramalath was even heard fighting for a reunion with Prabhu Deva after reports of his affair with Nayantara surfaced in the media. The mutual divorce will come as a relief for both Prabhu Deva and Nayantara, both of whom have been highly criticized by the media and several organizations in Tamil Nadu.
Prabhu Deva and Ramalath had been living in separation for nearly two years now after repeated arguments and fights which had made their married life a living hell. In a statement issued by the former couple after filing for divorce, it was said that no amount of intervention by the seniors of the family could bring about reconciliation, thereby forcing the couple to opt for a divorce.
Prabhu Deva will however have unlimited access to his children from his former marriage. The actor and Ramalath share two children. Another child had died of cancer two years ago.
The mutual divorce also meant that Ramalath has withdrawn her previous claims of reunion and the petition which prevented Prabhu Deva from marrying Nayantara. The divorce papers were presented to Judge I Pandurangan in Chennai.
