THE SHOWING
On Saturday night, designer Manish Malhotra had a fashion showing for Chivas Studio. Titled 'Fashion Broadway Show', the event held at The Turf Club, Mahalaxmi was hosted by Karan Johar. It was a fusion of cinema, fashion and the Broadway feel.
WHAT HAPPENED
MM and KJo were to walk the stage together towards the close of the show. However, there was disagreement over the final walk.
A source says, "Since it was a fashion event, Manish thought it would be better if he walked solo. He didn't want to share the ramp with Karan, " noting, "they worked on the show's ideation together. So it was expected that they would walk collectively and take a bow. However, that didn't happen."
One eyewitness found Malhotra's behaviour strange. "They've worked together for 20 years. Manish will make his debut as a director with KJo's Dharma and the producer even gave MM's nephew Punit a break with I Hate Luv Storys, so his behaviour was uncalled for."
However, another insider feels that Manish behaved appropriately, "At any showing, the designer walks with his showstopper/other models or alone at the close. It's natural for him to feel that given their professional diversity, he was perfectly correct in wanting to walk alone."
WHAT MANISH SAID
"Karan is like a brother. Where do you get this from? In fact, Karan and I went for dinner to celebrate the success of the show."
WHAT KARAN SAID
KJo remained unavailable for comment.
