Former Miss Jammu Anara Gupta, currently at the centre of a pornography scam uncovered by the Jammu and Kashmir police, is being wooed by Bollywood producers to appear in their films.
Anara, who was crowned Miss Jammu in 2001, had dreams about making it big in the Hindi film industry. But the 18-year-old's world came crashing down after police arrested her for appearing in pornographic films that she says she was forced into doing.
The first Bollywood producer to make her an offer was Ashok Pandit, who belongs to the Jammu region. In an offer made through the media, he said he was willing to play a facilitator for helping Anara reach her dream world.
But there has been no response so far from Anara to Pandit's offer.
Pandit claims compassion and a desire to help Anara get on the right path to enter world of cinema motivated him to make the offer. "I want to end the exploitation of young people, especially girls," he said.
Prior to Pandit's offer, a number of film producers and NGOs had sent messages offering Anara jobs and help to go and study abroad, reports in the local media said.
State Times, one of Jammu's leading newspapers, carried a front-page story saying Anara was being flooded with requests to appear in films.
But the controversy surrounding the former beauty queen is refusing to die down as her case is the talk of the town.
Sources said Anara had made startling revelations to the police about other women from Jammu involved in the flesh trade and that some of them had personally approached her to warn her against naming any more people involved in the pornography racket.
The sources also said that some women having political and financial patronage had been actively throwing spokes in the police investigation through their influential contacts.
