She was accompanied by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and BJP's state unit president K.S. Eshwarappa, to the state secretariat Vidhana Soudha, where she filed her nomination before Returning Officer S.B. Patil.
The Election Commission will hold a bye-election to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka on March 3 to fill up the vacancy created after the death of Janata Dal (S) leader M Rajasekhara Murthy on Dec 6, 2010.
While BJP guarantees her victory, Malini will get only one year term remaining of Murthy. If elected, her term will be over by April next year.
"I want to thank the BJP party for nominating me; I have had a long association with this state from many years as an artiste. As an MP, I will have to understand what Karnataka needs, I will take special interest in the state, especially in cultural matters, " Malini told reporters here.
