However the movie was on the backburner as he got busy. First, with his production 3 Idiots and later with his protege Rajesh Mapuskar's film, Ferrari Ki Sawaari which goes on the floors soon.
But now Chopra is devoting all his attention to Broken Horses. Before leaving for Los Angeles for the pre-production, he stated, "I had diverted all my energies to Ferrari Ki Sawari.
But now I have commenced work on Broken Horses, and hope to get the ball rolling soon."
Last year, the producer-director had spent time in the US working on the script and scouting for locations. But on his return to Mumbai he found himself yet again busy with Ferrari Ki Sawaari.
He took an active interest in the scripting and other aspects of the film. But now has left it to Rajkumar Hirani to oversee the film.
Chopra and his creative team will be in Los Angles till mid-March to finalise arrangements for the filming of Broken Horses.
While the focus is on casting and locations, he is also meeting potential distribution partners, studio executives and key technicians.
The film is slated to be shot in New Mexico and the casting for Broken Horses will begin in September.
