After teaching a thing or two to a 15-year old boy about sex, it's Payal Rohatgi's own turn to learn a few tricks of the trade.
The hottest Bollywood starlet, these days, can be seen frequenting the red-light areas of the city and trying to pick-up the details about the prostitutes who work there.
"It's for the film I'm doing. Most of us have grown up in well-off environments. We don't understand what it is like to be born in a red light area. And to get into the skin of the prostitute, I would ideally like to spend some time with them and see how it's done," she says.
Directed by TLV Prasad the film is based on the life of a prostitute, Saroj Khaparde, who later became a noted Mumbai social worker. Aptly titled 'Lal Batti' the film got the red signal from Khaparde herself, who was born in the infamous locales of city. Hence the script is being re-written to avoid the legal consequences.
However that doesn't deter Rohatgi from giving 100% to such a challenging role.
"It's always a challenge to play a character from the red light area and I am looking forward to the challenge. Although details are still being worked out, I have decided to give the role my best shot.
"It's not easy portraying a woman who has spent all her life in and around the red light area. In order to do so with conviction, I will need to spend time with prostitutes, and look closely at the conditions in which they live and work," she tells.
And the first thing to fall after her inhibitions is her clothes.
"Since the film is about a prostitute, it only makes sense to dress like one. I can't talk like a prostitute and then dress all prim and proper. In this case, the clothes will compliment the script. The film is bold and hot, but that is necessary," says Rohatgi.
