Amitabh Bachchan accompanied by wife Jaya and daughter Shweta was in Krakow, Poland, for the Off Plus Camera Film Festival. The Big B was honoured by the Poles by having his handprints taken and was even given a key to the city.
The star also read out his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan's poems at the Krakow University.
Janusz Wach, the consul-general of Poland in Mumbai, says, "It is an incredible privilege for the organisers of this film festival to have a superstar like Amitabh Bachchan to be a part of their celebrations.
Also, in the context of poetry, it is worth noting that Krakow is the city linked with two Polish poets Nobel Prize winners in literature (Czeslaw Milosz 1980; Wislawa Szymborska 1996). Hence, there is a beautiful synergy between the cultures of the two nations."
The Big B's handprints were taken for the plaque to be placed on the pavement that runs along the great castle. A pink liquid preparation is mixed and his hands put into it. After some time that pink thick liquid starts to turn white in colour and that is when he removes his hands and the imprint remains.
The Bachchans visited the Wieliczka salt mines in Krakow. They were to go last year and could not due to the Icelandic volcano, the trip was cancelled. So the ambassador got a Ganesha made in salt and personally visited the Bachchan residence to gift him the Ganesha of salt. While on this trip, they actually saw the mines.
They also visited Auschwitz, the most notorious of concentration camps where the Nazis gassed and killed Jews and Poles.
