Former Miss Jammu Anara Gupta, who was involved in a pornography scandal, has filed a Rs. 10 million suit against the Jammu and Kashmir police for "coercing" her to make confessional statements.

In her petition filed before the high court here Wednesday, Gupta said police had damaged her reputation and kept her in illegal confinement.

Gupta, crowned Miss Jammu in 2001, was arrested in October this year for appearing in pornographic films that she said she was forced into doing.

Her sudden turnaround Wednesday took many by surprise. She had been saying in media interviews during her police custody that influential people had exploited her by playing on her ambition to become a movie star.

In the suit she alleged that she was pushed into the unwanted spotlight by police.

She asserted that she had nothing to do with the pornographic tape in which police said she had played a role.

Gupta said her statements to the media were manipulated by torture. "I was coerced into making those statements admitting to my role in the CD," she said.
