His maiden book Pyramid of Virgin Dreams has been received very well by readers across different age groups, apart from getting rave reviews from the media and even a thumbs up from Amitabh Bachchan on his blog.
Kartikeya Kukreja, the protagonist of Vipul's book, and his unfulfilled dreams have gone down well, making the book Rupa's most read this season.
Apart from a funny account of a bureaucrat's life, the book also deals with issues like suppressed sexuality, paedophilia, extra-marital affairs and what goes inside the bureaucracy at large. The book is neither pulp fiction nor a serious treatise its inimitable literary humour comes naturally to this first time author.
Praising the book, Amitabh Bachchan recently blogged, "While on culture and arts and literature, I was wanting to bring to the attention of all my EF, a marvelous book written by Vipul Mittra, secretary tourism, Gujarat with whom I had the great pleasure of spending most of my time during the making of the Gujarat Tourism films. It's a refreshing and humorous rendition on life in bureaucracy in India.
Says the senior IAS officer, "It is very gratifying to find one's work being widely appreciated. A lot of back-breaking routine goes into writing any book, particularly when you are not a fulltime writer but hold busy responsibilities that can at times stifle your creativity. But the end result has been very satisfying."
