Refuting rumours about Rajini suffering from cancer and liver sclerosis, Gaikwad told Mid Day newspapetr: "I don't think the condition is so serious. Instead of speculating about his health, let us pray for his speedy recovery."
"As you know, Rajini was a chain smoker and had a drinking habit. The doctors have identified some problems in his lungs and liver, " he said.
Gaikwad said Rajinikanth may be taken abroad for treatment.
"There were suggestions that he should be taken to the US and we are considering it, " he said.
Meanwhile, Rajini's daughter Soundarya, who is the producer of his new film ‘Rana', said they are not even thinking of shooting the flick now.
"Our top priority is my father's health. We are not even thinking of the film at this moment. We can reschedule plans once he recovers completely, " she said.
Rajinikanth has been suffering from recurrent respiratory infection and gastro intestinal ailments and was advised rest.
Investigations are being carried out at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre, where he is now admitted. He is not in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
"He has been advised to stay in hospital for thorough examination to ensure normal health status, " said a media release issued by the hospital on Monday.
"A team of doctors, comprising specialists and general physicians, is attending on him, doing necessary investigation and appropriate treatment is being given to him.
"He is cheerful and is being treated in the private ward, " said the release.
He was earlier admitted with breathlessness and fever this month but later released. Prior to that, he was admitted in April end with exhaustion.
The 61-year-old star with a god like fan following after the phenomenal success of Robot (Endhiran), which was dubbed in Hindi as well, has started working on his new film Rana with Deepika Padukone in Chennai.
He plays three roles in the film on the Mahurat sets of which he fell sick on April 29 and had to be hospitalized first.
