Vivek Oberoi is known to be very passionate about his family, friends and what he believes in. So when he got to know about the smoking addiction of his manager Raj Roy, he made sure that he makes him quit the unhealthy habit.
Vivek, who's the ambassador for the anti-smoking campaign, a spokesperson for the World health Organization (and currently the face of Mid-day's Keep Mumbai Smoke Free campaign), took it upon himself to motivate Raj to kick the butt.
Finally, after months persuasion by the actor, Raj finally gave up smoking. A source close to Vivek said, "Vivek likes to take care of his staff. When he got to know about his manager's chain smoking, he asked him not to puff at work. Raj would comply before Vivek but would start smoking as soon as the actor left."
Vivek decided to put his foot down and help him. He sternly told his manager notto smoke when he was with him or on work related visits and if that wasn't possible for him, he asked him not to accompany him at all.
"Vivek would sometimes refuse to let Raj enter his Juhu office if he felt that Raj had smoked and come. Though Raj cut down drastically when with Vivek, he still would manage to take a puff or two in a day."
But a persistent Vivek hung on. "One day Raj discovered to his amusement that Vivek had told the local cigarette vendors near Vivek's home not to sell him cigarettes after work because Maya bhai (Vivek's character's name in Shootout At Lokhandwala) had requested them not to. Eventually Vivek's insistence paid off and Raj gave up the unhealthy habit."
Vivek said, "Cigarette is a cancer stick with a sucker at the end. So all of you, who love yourself, and people around you, kindly kick the butt." Raj said, "It was difficult to quit smoking completely. Instead of reducing my intake I had to quit to give up the habit. I did this by not being around people who don't smoke. Vivek supported me throughout this, and eventually I quit my addiction."
