Choreography or badminton? That seems to be the dilemma currently facing Deepika Padukone who will be serving as a token-lecturer at the Welinkar College in Matunga as part of a promotion gambit for her new film
Aarakshan.
The film's director has booked the college for August 2 when the film's main actors and technicians would be teaching a subject of his or her choice.
Apparently the director Prakash Jha was keen that Deepika and Saif address the students of Welinker College in their family subject, namely badminton and cricket. But Deepika and Saif baulked at the idea of
teaching their respective fathers' signature-games on the academic level.
Says a source, "Saif and Deepika firmly but politely declined. They didn't want to be compared with their legendary fathers. So they told Prakash they would rather teach something else. "
Deepika, we understand, will be teaching dancing while Saif along with Shankar Mahadevan will teach the kids the art of live performances . Yes, he will play the guitar. Kareena is expected to be present to cheer him
on.
Pratik and Manoj Bajpai had no problems selecting their respective subjects. Pratik has chosen something as bohemian as his personality. He will be teaching graffiti art to the students. One whole wall of a classroom
will be used by Pratik to execute graffiti designs.
Manoj Bajpai will be giving acting lessons to the students.
When we asked Prakash Jha about this unusual method of promoting the film, he chose to be immodest. "Yeah , isn't it an absolutely cool idea?
I only have my young creative team to thank for it. We
initially came up with the idea of Mr Bachchan as the guest-principal for the day at the college. But then we decided to make Saif, Deepika, Pratik, Manoj and all the other crew members guest-teachers at the college.
I just hope it works out well. "
When asked about his difference of opinion with Saif and Deepika over their chosen subject for academic discussion Prakash shrugged, "Deepika teaching bandminton and Saif teaching cricket...don't you think it
would be too obvious?"
