The bosses at Zee are eagerly looking forward to the February release of their forthcoming Indo-French
co-production, ONE DOLLAR CURRY. The recent screening of the film was an event by itself with the who's
who of Zee gracing the function from the Chairman and Managing Director of Zee, Subhash Chandra Goel to
Nittin Keni, who currently heads the film production wing of Zee. But it was playboy, model and restaurateur
turned actor, Vikram Chatwal who made the Occasion a memorable one with his live wire performance.
ONE DOLLAR CURRY is the second film to be produced by Mr. Vijay Singh whose first film JAYA GANGA
was a big success in France and other European countries. The film tells the story of Nishan (played by
Vikram Chatwal), an Indian immigrant in Paris who does not know how to cook but ends up making it big in
France with his kitchen on wheels called 'One Dollar Curry'. It also stars Smriti Mishra (of SARDARI BEGUM
fame) who plays Nishan's fiancée in the film.
Keni informs that the film is part of Zee's initiative in producing crossover films with a view to entering the
global market.
Apart from ONE DOLLAR CURRY, Zee has three other productions lined up for release this year, the Anupam
Kher starrer, KHOSLA KA GHOSLA, BAGHMATI-QUEEN OF FORTUNES and the film that Sudhir Mishra is
directing with the stars of India's best.
In addition, it has also entered the English film distribution market with its sister concern, E-city
Entertainment with the acquisition of ALEXANDER. "We are still exploring the market for English films since
they do not exactly confirm to a conventional distribution system," says Keni.
Ask Keni about ATHWS and why the film did not get the same response at the box-office as GADAR, Anil
Sharma's last film with Zee. Keni prefers to maintain a discreet silence on this. "I think everyone knows that
the success of GADAR had much to do with my contribution in it from the scripting, to the execution to the
final outcome but let's not indulge in the exercise of back-biting and criticism," Keni says.
