"I saw the news of Shammiji's demise on TV channels and I flew down from Delhi to see him for the last time. I won't be here for the cremation tomorrow (Monday) because I have to go back to Delhi, " Singh told reporters at the 79-year-old actor's residence here.
"I remember when I had become friends with Amitabh Bachchan almost 20 years ago, I had told him about my wish to meet Shammi-ji and it was in this very house that he had got me to meet him. He (Shammi) was such a great person. He is immortal and his memories will live on forever, " he added.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal too came to pay his tributes to the actor, who died of kidney failure Sunday morning.
"He was a great star and a great person. He was a very good friend of mine. He was internet savvy and taught me many things. It is a big loss for us, " he said.
Union Heavy Industries Minister and NCP leader Praful Patel, accompanied by his wife, also visited Shammi Kapoor's house to pay his tributes.
