Messi is scheduled to play for his country, Argentina in a match against Venezuela in Kolkata on Sep. 2.
The match has already received a lot of hype and Ranbir added to the frenzy by assuring that he is a great fan of "Maradona's protégé" and would attend the match with director Anurag Basu, who is shooting his new film Barfee with Ranbir as the lead.
"I am a huge fan of Messi and rest assure, I am definitely going to go to the match. In fact I and Anuragda (Anurag Basu) had decided some time back that we will watch the match together, " he said.
Commenting on his involvement with La Liga giant Barcelona FC he remarked, "I had an opportunity to meet Messi in Barcelona and during that time I was approached by the Barcelona club to become their brand ambassador in India and I happily accepted."
Anurag informed that "Barfee", his upcoming venture, has a definite Bengal connection as the entire shooting is scheduled for all parts of the state, with a major portion reserved for the City of Joy.
He said, "The story is about West Bengal and a lot of shooting will take place in the streets of Kolkata."
"It was always my wish to shoot in Kolkata and now that dream is finally coming true, " he added.
Upon query Anurag revealed that shooting in Darjeeling was not completed due to the disturbances and that is posing a dilemma for him.
"I couldn't do shooting in Darjeeling so we have to complete it later but I have not decided if we will go back to Darjeeling or not, " he said.
Ranbir described his recently developed bong connection because of "Barfee" at length and stated that Kolkata was a great experience for him.
"It was lovely shooting in Kolkata which is a very big part of Barfee. I loved the place, the people and especially the food, " he remarked.
Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who stars in "Barfee" opposite Ranbir revealed that "while Anuragda's chaotic manner can be scary you know that he is in control and he knows what he wants. That is why I am kind of walking on his feet."
"It was very tough doing my part so I had to do a lot of homework. I am totally dependent on Anuragda for everything, " she added.
On being probed Anurag defended himself for not making a film in Tollywood by saying, "I am hungry for more audiences and Hindi cinema offers a much larger platform than Bengali films."
