The Kolkata chapter of the Blenders Pride Fashion Tour (BPFT) 2011 made a rocking start on Saturday with Priyanka Chopra cooking up a storm on the ramp.

The Bollywood Diva, who is the brand ambassador of BPFT, looked smoulderingly hot in a Neeta Lulla outfit but carried it with a smile and an elegance that can be best described in Lulla's words, "she looked ethereal tonight."

Neeta Lulla, the "Czarina of Indian Fashion", regaled the anticipating audience through a collection called the "Romantic Interlude" that displayed garments with Indian silhouettes presented in western forms.

After an exhibition of westernized sarees, churidars and kurtas in several colours like various shades of pink, yellow, purple, light brown and even gold and black, the frenzy of anticipation surrounding the appearance of Priyanka reached a fever pitch.

Priyanka was welcomed by the audience through loud cheers as she stepped foot on the ramp in a stunning white dress appearing as a stark contrast to Neeta, who signed off draped in a sombre black gown.

Priyanka said, "I was very nervous and I felt like I was going to faint but now I feel great."

"We are under a lot of stress in our lives and so I have come up with happy colours to provide some joy in our lives, " Lulla remarked while speaking about her collection.

It was a night of great expectations with four talented designers showcasing their creations for the coming seasons and the fashion fiesta did live up to its reputation.

The evening commenced with designer Mandira Wirk showcasing an ensemble of apparel inspired by the affluent era of 16- 18th century of Rococo and Baroque and the audience cheered as "extravagance and opulence" fused to provide mesmerising creations.

"I am glad to see the reaction to my show, " said Wirk.

Bollywood actress Sopie Chowdhury left the audience dazed by appearing as the showstopper for the collection, dressed in a sapphire blue mini gown with a dash of purple adding to the mix.

"She (Sophie) is very beautiful and elegant and so she characterizes my collection, " Wirk remarked.

Designer Rina Dhaka came forward with a collection that uses folksy, floaty prints, embroidery and home-made accessories that bring out a comfortable and cool look using digital, screen and bloc prints.

"My collection is for the monsoon and the dresses are resort wear made using traditional paints, " Dhaka said.

Hyderabad based designer Asmita Marwa's dress line "Metamorphosis" signified a transformation of styles from the 70's to the 80' and 90's.

"I have tried to show the transformations of the ‘Flower Children' of the 70's to the retro chic brigade of the 80's but my clothes are very contemporary and target every free spirited person", Marwa said.

Shazan Padamshee appeared on the ramp as the showstopper draped in a yellow mini gown that according to Marwa made her "look like doll".

"I feel like Madonna right now because this dress is inspired by her, " Shazan said.
