Solila Parida, now settled in the US, has cast television stars Phillip Rhys and Susan May Pratt in key roles in "The Women of Georgia", which is scheduled for release in June.
Bollywood director N. Chandra, best known for the super hit "Tezaab", is directing the film.
Scenes for the movie are currently being shot at Parida's hometown of Puri. "We are going to shoot in other parts of Orissa, like Bhubaneswar, Chilika, Khandagiri and Udaygiri," tells Parida.
"We plan to complete the shooting of the Orissa part of the movie by Feb 13," said Parida, the producer of the Hindi movies "Koi Hai" and "Vishkanya".
"After that some scenes will be shot in Mumbai next month and then in Savannah in Georgia from March 10."
"The Women of Georgia" is a period film that shows Indian life when the British ruled the country.
"It centres on a beautiful girl who commits Sati by jumping into the funeral pyre of her husband over a century ago and is later reborn in a Western country," Parida said.
"The movie is based on a story written by an Orissa-based writer named Prasanna Pati. It took a year's painstaking labour to convert the story into a script."
A top Indian actress will play the lead role in the part of the story shot in India, Parida said without disclosing the actress's name.
Assistant director Michael Scott Reid is assisting N. Chandra. Predrag Dubraveic is the director of photography and the movie has songs in English composed by Wayne Sharpe.
Born in Puri district's Chandanpur village, Parida has performed on stage and is also a composer and singer.
"My idea is to bring Orissa into the forefront of cinema and this picture is a part of that initiative," she.
With an estimated budget of Rs.140 million, "The Women of Georgia" will feature scenes of quintessential life in a typical Orissa village and then move across to the vastness of the prairies of Georgia, Parida said.
