Apparently Akshaye's pain grew so acute that the shooting had to be postponed indefinitely and the unit returned to Mumbai to wait until Akshaye was in a condition to shoot again. Attempts were made to make the shooting disruption look like a normal break in schedule. But the fact is, the leading man's back problem is serious.
Director Rumi Jaffrey confesses that Akshaye's back indeed played the villain in the shooting.
Says the director, "Yes, Akshaye hurt his back. And we had to postpone the shooting in Bhopal for three weeks. We are back in Mumbai. But we resume shooting from October 10. By then Akshaye's back would hopefully be repaired. "
When probed about how Akshaye hurt himself Rumi says, "It wasn't an action sequence. Just a normal shot. Akshaye kept shooting. But as the days progressed his pain got worse, probably because he had to do a lot of outdoor shooting on a scooter, etc. Finally it got so bad that we had to stop the shooting and return to Mumbai. "
When contacted Akshaye Khanna dismissed the injury as a muscle pull. "I was shooting when it happened. I had to take rest for ten days. Very sad. But what to do? Doctors' orders. It's a spasmodic pain. But I might as well rest it out. "
Akshaye Khanna is the third actor after Sunny Deol and Akshay Kumar to have injured his back during shooting.
