Pop star Jessica Simpson's painful root canal surgery featured on the new series of her hit reality TV show "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica".

The show's dentist reprimanded the star for not having regular check-ups and failing to floss, reported Contactmusic.com.

Simpson was shown undergoing the painful procedure on the latest episode of the show as husband Nick Lachey watched.

The unsympathetic Lachey said: "Let this be a lesson to you and your children - tell them one day to go to the dentist."
