Theft charges against socialite Paris Hilton have been dropped after the district attorney's office here decided not to prosecute the hotel heiress for stealing one of her own sex tapes.

Authorities had planned to prosecute Hilton after the "Simple Life" star was spotted stealing a DVD of "One Night In Paris", said imdb.com.

No charges will be brought against Hilton, who also allegedly ripped down a poster promoting the sex tape, which features her.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office recommended that Hilton be charged with petty vandalism and misdemeanour.
