Rock star Billy Joel has been hospitalised in New York after suffering severe gastric pains.

The newlywed "Piano Man" singer is currently undergoing tests at the North Shore Hospital, as doctors are trying to pinpoint the problem, reported the New York Post.

"Billy has gastro-intestinal tract distress with possible kidney stones," a friend was quoted as saying.

There were also speculations of a possible case of pancreatitis.
