Bay Area Unites, a coalition of business, civic, cultural and religious organisations, will host an afternoon of
multicultural entertainment in aid of the tsunami victims on Feb 20.
The coalition announced that "One Mind, One Heart" will provide support for the victims of the tsunami in
seven of the hardest hit countries: Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, the Maldives, Malaysia and
Somalia.
"When we share the suffering of others, compassion is born. In the birth of compassion is love, and when
there is love, there is the opportunity for healing. This event is an opportunity for healing," said Deepak
Chopra, inspirational speaker and author.
The event will include entertainers, speakers and spiritual leaders, including a video appearance by former
President Bill Clinton.
Among those announced to perform and speak are Grammy nominated singer Lisa Loeb, Chopra, Tom
Corwin & Tim Hockenberry of Mostly Dylan, Gingger & Shankar and Dr. Malini Alles, founder of a global
group to empower disadvantaged women globally.
"We anticipate a truly memorable event that will bring together the best of the Bay Area as we band
together to provide relief for people of the countries devastated by the tsunami," said Vish Mishra, convenor
of the event and a director of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs).
"We hope that everyone in the Bay Area will contribute and participate to this great cause to the full extent
of their abilities."
"I am so excited to be a part of this event where over 50 diverse organisations are coming together and
presenting this benefit -- for love of humanity; to remember, rebuild and renew lives," Loeb said.
