Unlike the original, the story of "Aashiqui 2" would be upgraded to suit the modern times, Suri said.
"It's been 20 years for that film. So, obviously now I will have to upgrade this story. It will be the same realistic love story but with a modern theme," Suri told IANS.
"Aashiqui" won critical accolades after its release at the time. It also catapulted the careers of lead actors Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal, who forayed into Bollywood with this film. Suri is also set to hunt for new faces for the sequel.
"I will cast fresh faces with a new boy and a new girl," said Mohit.
While some are referring to "Aashiqui 2" as a sequel, others are calling it a remake. However, producer Mukesh Bhatt of Vishesh Films sets the record straight.
"It is neither a sequel nor a remake. It can be said as the musical series of 'Aashiqui'...a new generation is making this film," he said.
