Balan plays a pregnant NRI woman searching for her missing husband in Kolkata. The film hits theatres this week. "'Kahaani' is more of Vidya's baby than mine today. She had a certain belief in the film and today she is proud of it.
She was not just an actor on the film; she was much more than that. She knew everything about what was happening on the production front. At times she even managed crowds when things became a little unruly while shooting, " Ghosh said.
The director also said that they hoped for a smooth sailing when they started work on the movie but things became difficult when his Amitabh Bachchan starrer debut 'Aladin' flopped.
"When we were writing 'Kahaani', 'Aladin' was yet to be released and we felt that it would be a superhit. However things changed and there was this mountain of a strong NO in front of us, " releaved Ghosh.
"Everyone had a view on what I should make next. 'Kahaani' hardly seemed to be the kind of film they felt I should be doing. I kept my faith intact and didn't give up. I would have made this film even if 'Aladin' was a hit. I guess then the journey would have been easier though."
