He's back on the telly with his popular chat show. We are talking about actor Shekhar Suman, who will also be
back on celluloid with a new film. A multi-faceted individual, Shekhar has experimented with singing, theatre, direction, production,
etc. He talks to CS about cinema and his first love, Utsav:
Over the years
Indian cinema has changed drastically over the years, in terms of production values, content and marketing. One thing that's
really caught my attention is film promotion.
When I did Utsav, there was no need for any promotion. But today, we
see stars going to malls and other public places in different cities/countries to promote a film.
Personally, I would not
like to go in public and distribute tickets to promote my film. I feel that somewhere stars suffer from a sense of insecurity that
makes them go out and promote their film in public. The product should speak for itself.
On 70mm
I will soon be seen in a film with my son, Adhyayan. It is a thriller set in the world of medical science. The film also has a strong
relationship angle. However, my film Utsav is my first love. It's become a part of my DNA now. The film came as a blessing for me,
and was a turning point in my career.
Viva women
Amongst the current crop of actresses, I love Vidya Balan and Mahie Gill. Both are powerhouse performers, and can pull off any
role. I also like Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor, who balance both glamour and histrionics.
