The celebrated sister of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who's a distinguished music video director and reckoned film editor in her own right, admits that she has every intention of going ahead with her directorial debut soon. "I was waiting for the release of BLACK, partly because I wanted to gauge the response to the film as its editor and partly because I was looking at Sanjay's involvement in my directorial debut," she says.
The decision to switch gears and get into film direction was however made some time back. "I decided that I had made enough music videos and told Bhushan-ji (Bhushan Kumar of T-series) one fine day that I'd now want to focus on the film that I had been dreaming of. Music videos could come later. Post BLACK it seemed the ideal time to make things happen," she recalls.
So when is she planning to go ahead with her plans? "Very shortly. I want to start cracking down on the project right away now that Sanjay is through with BLACK. I have been reveling in the success of the film ever since its release. It is heartening to know that the film has got a universal acceptance all over," she says.
Like Sanjay Bhansali she has lived the emotionally intense moments in BLACK, all through its making, as its editor. "Sanjay is very emotionally involved in his work, so am I. Both of us are intensely involved in our work," she says, adding that she has seen the film over and over again post its release with sections of the audiences.
Will Sanjay Bhansali be the driving force in her directorial debut? "He is definitely a driving force in everything I do. The same applies to him. We have always shared our creative experiences as a brother and sister team. He has read the script of my film and like everyone else is looking for the D-day when I make my directorial debut," she ponders.
