Her acrimonious split form her parents had left a bad taste in her mouth apart from leaving her penniless.
The only man who still calls her and asks, "Kaho Na Pyaar Hai" is Vikram Bhatt but Amisha stands tall in Bollywood, successfully dodging the vicious verbal volleys from the entire glam doll sorority in the tinsletown.
But it's not the regular catfights but the bitter family feud that hurts the Havard gold medalist.
Giving the account of her emotional trauma she says, "My parents were completely against Vikram. They wanted me to date and marry a rich man, so I wouldn't question them about what they were doing with my money. The day my mother found out about Vikram and me, at 4 am, she beat me with a slipper.
"Every day there used to be so much of fighting and tension in the house, that after a point, I could not take it. My parents used to beat me because they didn't want me to get married to Vikram."
As the matter worsened, brother Ashmit switched sides too leaving Vikram as the only man in her life. But today, the Patel lass is in mood to wash to the dirty linen in public anymore.
"Today, I am very much at peace, and happy with life. I have moved on completely and put the past behind me. I do not hold any grudge against them at all. May God forgive them for what they did to me. I am a fighter and I won this battle. I look at things positively and today, I have so much to look forward to. I have to become mature and responsible. I am high on life and excited about my career," says Amisha with a smile.
Now that's what we call ‘the Rising' in a true spirit!
