With the Oscar fever having died down, the film fraternity is busy analyzing whether India's choice for the Oscars, namely SHWAAS, was really an apt one. There has also
been criticism whether SHWAAS was altogether sidelined by the Oscar jury in the race to the world's most reckoned entertainment awards.
But the producer of
SHWAAS, Arun Nalawde, has no regrets about his film not featuring anywhere close to the nominations category. According to him, the film got more than its due in terms
of the great applause it got at every show it was screened in the US.
"I can definitely vouch for the fact that it did not go unnoticed. We had 27-30 shows of the film
in America, seven of which were held in Hollywood and the response was overwhelming. Let's not forget the fact that the film was competing with 49 outstanding films in the
world all technically brilliant. Sadly, we don't compare with them even remotely in the technique they adopt. I also realized that the films in the race were specially made and
designed for the Oscars. Despite these limitations, the biggest boost for the film was the rating of 9.5 against 10 that it got at the Palmspring festival," says Nalawde.
Nalawde is now planning to make a short film about the "Oscar experience", from the excitement of having won the National award to the decision to send it to the Oscars
and the trials and the tribulations he went through, to ensure that it could indeed reach to destination Oscars.
"It meant appealing to people for funds, seeking
financial assistance from every quarter and tapping the funds of NRIs to facilitate the 30 shows that were held there. It was a grueling exercise no doubt but a worthy one,
which is why I want to recreate and treasure it on film," he says.
