Freida Pinto on the true meaning of beauty and why she loves attending the Cannes Film Festival
Freida Pinto is quite a pro now at walking the red carpet at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. After all, she has done it two
times in a row. Wearing couture gowns and rubbing shoulders with the who-is-who of the film industry worldwide, the LA-based
actress speaks to HitList about her stint at this global gala.
How do you feel about being an Indian face in Cannes?
I think it's important to be extremely proud of one's origins, especially when you are a foreign actress with ethnic features. At the
same time, we must forget about stereotypes.
But I'll never forget where I'm from. It's essential to remaining humble
and evolving. This year is special since I'm also promoting my upcoming film.
How would you describe your work with Danny Boyle, Jean-Jacques Annaud and Sean Penn?
They are three very different people — each with a totally different approach to cinema —so I can't compare them. Having worked
with one does not prepare you to work with the other. You always have to adapt to each director and his vision.
Has living in the West changed your perception about your own beauty?
That it truly lies in the hands of the beholder but self-confidence and keeping it ‘real' goes a long way! Being beautiful, being
comfortable in my skin and graciously accepting the many wonderful things I have been given in life.
