Sabharwal wrote Arjun's uncle Anil Kapoor's murder thriller My Wife's Murder which Ram Gopal Varma produced.

But Ramu somehow never got around to give him a chance. Atul came to Yashraj where he directed an excellent television series Powder. That's when Aditya Chopra spotted the potential in Atul and asked him to write a screenplay. "
